The Fibertec™ 8000 offers the first fully-automated solution for reference analysis of fibre in animal feed

Innovative use of automation reduces laboratory operator time to just two minutes

FOSS announces the Fibertec™ 8000, a fully-automated solution for unattended determination of crude and detergent fibre according to standard reference ‘crucible’ methods such as Weende and van Soest.

Offering the lowest operator time of any fibre solution, the Fibertec 8000 can handle up to six samples simultaneously without those time-consuming interruptions involved with other fibre analysis solutions. For instance, there is no handling of individual samples or filter bags. It can even be set up to run overnight.

Operator time reduced to two minutes

A study conducted by FOSS shows that the new system reduces operator to just two minutes from the previously lowest possible operator time of 51 minutes provided by the FOSS Fibertec 2010 system.  Another benefit of the fully-automated procedure is improved consistency of results due to reduced human interaction with samples. Laboratory staff can also avoid the handling hot chemical reagents.  

Automatic functions take care of heating and dispensing of reagents and antifoam as well as rinsing with water. Other features include automatic heat reduction when the boiling point is reached to prevent spillage. An intuitive software display reduces training needs by making it easy to set-up jobs.

The Fibertec is ideal for analysis of crude fibre, neutral detergent fibre, acid detergent fibre and acid detergent lignin in raw materials used in animal feed and finished feed products.

Reliable results for labeling of feed

Getting results for labeling of feed and other agricultural products is made simple with the Fibertec 8000. It follows official reference tests according to ISO, AOAC and others using Weende, van Soest and other recognized crucible methods with great consistency.

Single or sequential extractions includ­ing boiling, use of internally preheated reagents, rinsing and filtration are performed under reproducible and controlled conditions. The sample residue remains in the crucible during the whole procedure, avoiding sample transfer and the associated risk of error. The consistent rate of heating and time to boiling also aids repeatability. 

Discrete analysis of each sample gives reliable reference results to ±1 % accuracy, relative at 5% - 30% fibre level.
